The VIMA music awards and Bite My Music team have decided to embrace Indonesia into its awards platform for VIMA 2013. VIMA 2013 will now recognize independent musicians from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia.
“Its no surprise that we have taken this very important decision to have Indonesia as part of the VIMA awards platform, as it has been a natural progression in the way the awards has evolved, we’re now gearing towards becoming the Independent music awards for Southeast Asia. We have been monitoring and listening to so many amazingly talented musicians from this blessed country and we believe this will raise the bar in the region to produce the perfect batch of superstars for a global assault”, said Siva Zaphod Chandran, founder of VIMA awards and also the COO of Bite Media.
VIMA was the 1st Asian Independent music awards launched way back in 2008 and was founded by Siva, Tevan (a rock singer) and Premo (hip-hop producer). Ever since then, the awards platform has incorporated 1 country into its equation every year, pulling in Brunei in 2010 and Singapore in 2011. In 2009, VIMA awards launched a second awards platform called AVIMA (Asia Voice Independent Music awards) to honor musicians from across the Asia. In 2009, with entries from 3000 musicians from more than 20 countries, AVIMA became the World’s biggest independent music awards. Winners from VIMA automatically qualified to AVIMA which included countries such as India, Indonesia. Thailand, Philippines, Iran, UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Kazakhstan.
“AVIMA was our first peek into the diverse and creative musical talent from Indonesia, and it bowled us over. The musicians were experimenting with anything and everything – jazz, ambient, rock, hip-hop, soul,trance- a genre hybrid . And it wasnt just about a mixed bowl but in the manner in which they could conjure really good songs. Indonesia has always been the becnhmark for R&B and pop songs in the region, but we’re excited to bring more talent to the world stage to appreciate these deserved musicians”, said Meera Thuraivel, CEO of Bite Media and co-founder of VIMA awards.
The VIMA team is now seeking for media partners from Indonesia, event promoters and also potential sponsors to work towards the VIMA finals, the ground event that will be scheduled for mid-February 2013. VIMA 2013 will open for registration and submissions in July 31st, 2012. All registrations will happen through bitemymusic.com and will call for songs that were released after October 1st, 2011. The Closing deadline for the songs and music submission is slated to be end November 2012.
The previous nominees from Indonesia as part of AVIMA have included Everbody Loves Irene, Bottlesmoker,Ray D’Sky, Cadenzza,Agrikulture, Airport Radio, White Shoes and The Couples Company,Overload Romance, Ritmic Traumatic, Elemental Gaze, Risky Summerbee and The Honey Thief,Machine D and The Aftermiles.
Two of the highest honors from AVIMA went to acts from Indonesia. In 2009, The Thank You for Existing Award went to Agrikulture and the same accolade went to Airport Radio in 2010.
